What might you expect the top of the range training organisations accredited by Microsoft to provide a trainee in Britain in this day and age? Undoubtedly, the ultimate in Microsoft certified training tracks, offering a portfolio of courses to take you to a variety of careers in the IT workplace.

Try to discuss all the different permutations with someone who has knowledge of the IT industry, and has the ability to guide you towards the more likely roles to suit your personality.

Be assured that your training course is put together to your current level of knowledge and ability. The best companies will make sure that your training program is appropriate for the career you want to get into.

One area often overlooked by potential students considering a training program is the concept of ‘training segmentation’. Essentially, this is the method used to break up the program to be delivered to you, which vastly changes the point you end up at.

Most companies will sell you a program spread over 1-3 years, and deliver each piece one-by-one as you complete each section or exam. This sounds reasonable until you consider the following:

How would they react if you didn’t complete everything within the time limits imposed? Sometimes their preference of study order won’t be as easy as an alternative path could be.

The ideal solution is to have all the learning modules posted to you immediately; the whole caboodle! This way, nothing can happen down the line which could affect your capacity to get everything done.

Many trainers have a handy Job Placement Assistance service, designed to steer you into your first job. However sometimes this feature is bigged up too much, because it is genuinely quite straightforward for well qualified and focused men and women to land a job in this industry – as employers are keen to find appropriately skilled employees.

Get your CV updated straight-away though – you should get plenty of help from your training provider on this. Don’t procrastinate and leave it till you’ve finished your exams.

A good number of junior support roles have been offered to people who’re still on their course and haven’t even passed a single exam yet. This will at least get your CV into the ‘possible’ pile and not the ‘no’ pile.

If you don’t want to travel too far to work, then you’ll often find that a specialist independent regional recruitment consultant or service may serve you better than a national service, as they are much more inclined to have insider knowledge of local employment needs.

In a nutshell, if you put the same amount of effort into landing a job as into studying, you’re not likely to experience problems. A number of trainees curiously spend hundreds of hours on their course materials and do nothing more once they’ve passed their exams and would appear to think that businesses will just discover them.

Trainees looking to build an IT career normally don’t know which path to consider, or even what area to get certified in.

Because in the absence of any previous experience in the IT industry, how could any of us understand what any job actually involves?

Ultimately, a well-informed resolution will only come via a thorough examination across many unique key points:

* Your personal interests and hobbies – as they can reveal the areas will provide a happy working life.

* Do you want to obtain training for a certain raison d’etre – e.g. do you aim to work based at home (working for yourself?)?

* What salary and timescale requirements that are important to you?

* Often, trainees don’t consider the energy demanded to get fully certified.

* You should also think long and hard about the amount of time and effort you’ll put into the accreditation program.

In these situations, it’s obvious that the only real way to research these issues is through a chat with someone who has a background in Information Technology (as well as the commercial needs.)

Most trainers typically provide mainly work-books and reference manuals. This can be very boring and not ideal for achieving retention.

Studies have constantly confirmed that connecting physically with our study, is far more likely to produce long-lasting memories.

Find a course where you’ll get a host of CD and DVD ROM’s – you’ll learn by watching video tutorials and demonstrations, with the facility to hone your abilities through virtual lab’s.

You really need to look at courseware examples from any company that you may want to train through. They have to utilise full motion videos of instructors demonstrating the topic with lab’s to practice the skills in.

Often, companies will only use purely on-line training; sometimes you can get away with this – but, consider how you’ll deal with it when you don’t have access to the internet or you get a slow connection speed. It’s much safer to rely on physical CD or DVD discs which don’t suffer from these broadband issues.

There are actually 4 different sectors in the full CompTIA A+ syllabus, but you’re just required to achieve pass marks in 2 for competency in A+. Be aware though that only studying two of the four specialities could expose flaws in your knowledge when applying for a job. At least learn about all four – this will give you the edge in the working environment.

As well as being taught how to build and fix computers, trainees on A+ courses will be shown how to work in antistatic conditions, along with remote access, fault finding and diagnostics.

If you aspire to being responsible for networks of computers, add the very comprehensive Network+ to your training package. Taking this course as well will prepare you to command a more senior job role. Other ones that might be interesting to you are the Microsoft networking qualifications (MCP, MCSA and MCSE).

A ridiculously large number of organisations only look at the plaque to hang on your wall, and completely miss what you actually need – which is a commercial career or job. Always begin with the end goal – don’t make the vehicle more important than the destination.

It’s a testament to the marketing skills of the big companies, but the majority of trainees kick-off study that often sounds wonderful in the prospectus, but which gets us a career that is of no interest. Try talking to typical university leavers for a real eye-opener.

Stay tuned-in to what you want to achieve, and create a learning-plan from that – not the other way round. Keep on track and ensure that you’re training for an end-result that’ll reward you for many long and fruitful years.

We recommend that students always seek guidance and advice from a professional advisor before you begin a learning path, so you’re sure from the outset that the content of a learning package provides the skills necessary.

We’re often asked why academic qualifications are being replaced by more commercially accredited qualifications?

With university education costs spiralling out of control, along with the industry’s general opinion that corporate based study is closer to the mark commercially, we’ve seen a dramatic increase in Adobe, Microsoft, CISCO and CompTIA accredited training routes that supply key solutions to a student at a fraction of the cost and time involved.

In a nutshell, students are simply taught the necessary specifics in depth. It’s slightly more broad than that, but principally the objective has to be to cover the precise skills needed (alongside some required background) – without trying to cram in everything else – in the way that academic establishments often do.

The bottom line is: Accredited IT qualifications give employers exactly what they’re looking for – the title is a complete giveaway: i.e. I am a ‘Microsoft Certified Professional’ in ‘Windows XP Administration and Configuration’. So employers can identify exactly what they need and what certifications will be suitable to deal with those needs.

A service offered by some training providers is a programme of Job Placement assistance. The service is put in place to help you get your first commercial position. The fact of the matter is it isn’t so complicated as you might think to land your first job – once you’re trained and certified; the shortage of IT personnel in Britain looks after that.

Help with your CV and interview techniques may be available (alternatively, check out one of our sites for help). Ensure you update that dusty old CV right away – not after you’ve qualified!

It’s not uncommon to find that junior support roles have been offered to students who are still learning and haven’t got any qualifications yet. This will at least get you into the ‘maybe’ pile of CV’s – rather than the ‘No’ pile.

Generally, you’ll receive better performance from a local IT focused recruitment consultant or service than you will through a training provider’s national service, as they’ll know the local area and commercial needs better.

In a nutshell, as long as you focus the same level of energy into securing your first IT position as into training, you won’t find it too challenging. A number of men and women bizarrely spend hundreds of hours on their course materials and then just stop once certified and appear to be under the impression that jobs will come to them.

Can job security really exist anymore? In the UK for example, with businesses changing their mind on a whim, there doesn’t seem much chance.

Now, we only experience security via a fast escalating market, pushed forward by a lack of trained workers. These circumstances create the appropriate environment for a higher level of market-security – a much more desirable situation.

Taking a look at the IT sector, a recent e-Skills investigation demonstrated a 26 percent shortfall of skilled workers. To explain it in a different way, this shows that the UK can only find 3 certified professionals for each 4 job positions that exist at the moment.

Appropriately trained and commercially grounded new employees are accordingly at a complete premium, and it seems it will continue to be so for a long time to come.

Because the IT sector is expanding at such a speed, there really isn’t any other market worth considering for a new career.

Should you be considering getting into the web design industry, Adobe Dreamweaver is essential to achieve relevant certifications that are globally recognised.

Should you be considering getting into the web design industry, Adobe Dreamweaver is essential to achieve relevant certifications that are globally recognised.

We’d also suggest that you become fully conversant with the full Adobe Web Creative Suite, which incorporates Flash and Action Script, to be able to use Dreamweaver commercially as a web-designer. This knowledge can take you on to becoming an Adobe Certified Expert or Adobe Certified Professional (ACE or ACP).

Learning how to construct a website is just the start. Driving traffic, content maintenance and knowledge of some programming essentials are the next things. Think about courses that also contain modules to teach these subjects (such as PHP, HTML, MySQL etc.), in addition to search engine optimisation (SEO) and E-Commerce skills.

A number of men and women assume that the state educational system is the way they should go. So why then are commercial certificates becoming more in demand?

With a growing demand for specific technological expertise, the IT sector has of necessity moved to specific, honed-in training that can only come from the vendors – for example companies like Adobe, Microsoft, CISCO and CompTIA. This usually turns out to involve less time and financial outlay.

Academic courses, for instance, become confusing because of a lot of loosely associated study – and a syllabus that’s too generalised. Students are then held back from getting enough core and in-depth understanding on a specific area.

In simple terms: Authorised IT qualifications let employers know exactly what you’re capable of – the title is a complete giveaway: i.e. I am a ‘Microsoft Certified Professional’ in ‘Windows XP Administration and Configuration’. Therefore employers can look at their needs and what certifications are required to perform the job.

In amongst the top nominees for the top potential problem for IT trainees is usually having to turn up to ‘In Centre’ days or workshops. A lot of training schools harp on about the ‘benefits’ of going in to their classes, usually though, they end up as a thorn in your side due to many reasons:

* Regular travelling – very long trips usually.

* Getting constant holidays or time off – typical trainers only offer class availability from Monday to Friday and group several days in a chunk. This is generally difficult for those of us who work for a living, especially when you add the travel time on.

* Don’t ignore lost holiday time. Usually we’re lucky to have twenty days annual leave. If over 50 percent is used in classes, then it doesn’t leave much for us and our families.

* Workshop days usually become over full.

* Tension is often caused in classes as students want to progress at their own pace.

* Count the cost of all the travel, fares, accommodation, parking and food and you could be in for a major shock. Trainees talk of increased costs of hundreds to thousands of pounds over time. Take some time to add it all up – then you’ll know.

* Do you really want even a small chance of letting yourself be side-stepped for a possible promotion or wage increases while you’re training.

* Surely, all of us at some time have avoided asking a question, because we didn’t want to look stupid?

* Working away from home – a fair few attendees find they have to work or live away for part of their study. Events are therefore hard to get to, unfortunately the money has already changed hands in your initial payment.

A more flexible training route is to make use of pre-made workshops at home, in comfort – taking them when it’s convenient to you – not anyone else.

Whenever an ugly problem rears its head, get onto the live 24×7 support (that should come with any technical program.) Bear in mind, if your PC is a notebook PC, study isn’t restricted to the home or office.

You don’t have to worry about any note-taking – all the lessons and background info are laid out on a plate. Anything you want to do over, it’s there.

The upshot: Reduced stress, more money in the bank, and absolutely no travelling.

In the modern world, support workers who are able to mend networks and PC’s, and give daily advice to users, are vital in all areas of the economy. The nation’s requirement for increasing numbers of technically qualified people is growing, as we turn out to be ever more dependent on computers in the modern world.

‘Exam Guarantees’ are often bundled with training offers – they always involve paying for the exam fees up-front, before you’ve even made a start on the course. Before you get carried away with guaranteed exams, be aware of the facts:

In this day and age, we are a little more ‘marketing-savvy’ – and most of us grasp that it is something we’re paying for – it’s not because they’re so generous they want to give something away!

The fact is that if students pay for their own exams, one at a time, there’s a much better chance they’ll pass every time – since they’ll be conscious of their investment in themselves and therefore will put more effort into their preparation.

Isn’t it outrageous to have to pay the training college in advance for examinations? Find the best deal you can at the time, don’t pay mark-ups – and take it closer to home – instead of miles away at the college’s beck and call.

Including money in your training package for examination fees (and if you’re financing your study there’ll be interest on that) is insane. Why fill a company’s coffers with your money simply to help their cash-flow! Some will be pinning their hopes on the fact that you won’t get round to taking them – but they won’t refund the cash.

It’s worth noting that exam re-takes with training companies with an ‘Exam Guarantee’ are always heavily controlled. They will insist that you take pre-tests first so you can prove to them you have a good chance of passing.

On average, exams cost 112 pounds or thereabouts in the last 12 months when taken at Prometric or VUE centres around the United Kingdom. So don’t be talked into shelling out hundreds or thousands of pounds more for ‘Exam Guarantees’, when common sense dictates that the responsible approach is study, commitment and preparing with good quality mock and practice exams.

A competent and practiced consultant (in contrast with a salesperson) will cover in some detail your current experience level and abilities. This is paramount to understanding the starting point for your education.

Don’t forget, if you’ve had any relevant accreditation or direct-experience, then you may be able to commence studying further along than a trainee with no history to speak of.

If this is your first attempt at an IT exam then it may be wise to begin with user-skills and software training first.

When was the last time you considered the security of your job? Typically, this issue only becomes a talking point when we experience a knock-back. However, The cold truth is that our job security doesn’t really exist anymore, for most of us.

When we come across rising skills shortfalls and escalating demand though, we can discover a fresh type of security in the marketplace; driven by the conditions of constant growth, organisations just can’t get the influx of staff needed.

The computer industry skills shortfall around the country falls in at approx 26 percent, as shown by the most recent e-Skills study. Essentially, we only have the national capacity to fill 3 out of each 4 job positions in the computer industry.

This one idea on its own is the backbone of why the United Kingdom needs a lot more workers to get trained and join the Information Technology market.

Without a doubt, this really is such a perfect time for retraining into the IT industry.

You should only consider retraining paths that progress to commercially recognised certifications. There are far too many trainers pushing their own ‘in-house’ certificates that are essentially useless in today’s commercial market.

All the major commercial players like Microsoft, Adobe, CompTIA or Cisco each have nationally approved skills programs. These big-hitters can make sure you stand out at interview.

The Cisco training is intended for individuals who want to learn about network switches and routers. Routers connect computer networks via dedicated lines or the internet. We’d recommend that initially you should go for your CCNA. Don’t be tempted to go straight for a CCNP as it’s a considerable step up – and you need to work up to it to have a go at this.

Because routers are linked to networks, it is vital to have prior knowledge of how networks function, or you will be out of your depth with the course and not be able to do the work. Look for a course that features the basics on networks (CompTIA is ideal) before you start the CCNA.

The CCNA qualification is where you need to be aiming – you’re not ready for your CCNP straight away. Once you’ve got a few years experience behind you, you’ll know if this next level is for you. If so, you’ll have significantly improved your chances of success – as your working knowledge will put everything into perspective.

A ridiculously large number of organisations only concern themselves with gaining a certificate, and completely avoid why you’re doing this – which is a commercial career or job. Always start with where you want to get to – don’t get hung-up on the training vehicle.

It’s common, for instance, to obtain tremendous satisfaction from a year of studying and then find yourself trapped for decades in a tiresome job role, as an upshot of not doing some quality research at the beginning.

Stay focused on where you want to go, and then build your training requirements around that – don’t do it the other way round. Keep on track and begin studying for something that’ll reward you for many long and fruitful years.

We’d recommend you take advice from a professional advisor before you begin a particular training programme, so there’s little doubt that the chosen route will give you the appropriate skill-set.

Have you recently questioned how safe your job is? For most of us, this issue only becomes a talking point when something dramatic happens to shake us. Unfortunately, the lesson often learned too late is that true job security doesn’t really exist anymore, for nearly everyone now.

Whereas a sector experiencing fast growth, with huge staffing demands (as there is a growing shortage of commercially certified people), opens the possibility of real job security.

The Information Technology (IT) skills deficit across the UK falls in at approx 26 percent, as noted by the latest e-Skills study. Or, to put it differently, this clearly demonstrates that Great Britain is only able to source three properly accredited workers for every four jobs available at the moment.

This disturbing truth shows the urgent need for more appropriately trained computing professionals in the UK.

It’s unlikely if a better time or market state of affairs could exist for gaining qualification for this swiftly emerging and blossoming business.

The way in which your courseware is broken down for you is often missed by many students. How many parts is the training broken down into? What is the order and how fast does each element come?

By and large, you will join a program requiring 1-3 years study and receive one element at a time until graduation. This may seem sensible until you think about these factors:

It’s not unusual for trainees to realise that the company’s ’standard’ path of training isn’t as suitable as another. You may find that a different order of study is more expedient. Could it cause problems if you don’t get everything done at the pace they expect?

Ideally, you’d get ALL the training materials right at the beginning – meaning you’ll have all of them to come back to in the future – irrespective of any schedule. Variations can then be made to the order that you attack each section if another more intuitive route presents itself.

Have a conversation with almost any expert consultant and we’d be amazed if they couldn’t provide you with many awful tales of salespeople ripping-off unsuspecting students. Ensure you only ever work with a skilled professional who quizzes you to uncover the best thing for you – not for their pay-packet! You need to find the right starting point of study for you.

An important point to note is that, if you have some relevant work-experience or certification, then you can sometimes expect to pick-up at a different starting-point to a student who’s starting from scratch.

It’s usual to start with a user-skills course first. It can brush up on your current abilities and make the slope up to the higher-levels a little less steep.

As you’re considering studying for the MCSE certificate, it’s likely you’ll come into one of two categories. You could be about to enter the computer sector, and you’ve found the industry has many opportunities for qualified people. Or you could be already a professional attempting to consolidate your skill-set with a qualification such as MCSE.

As you discover more about training colleges, don’t use any that short-change you by not upgrading their courses to the latest version from Microsoft. Overall, this will cost the student a great deal more due to the fact that they’ve been educated in an out-of-date syllabus which will have to be revised very quickly.

Avoid making a hasty decision when buying a course before having all your questions answered. Take time to discover a training provider who will ensure you are on an appropriate training track for you.

Of all the important things to consider, one of the most essential is always proper direct-access 24×7 support from dedicated instructors and mentors. It’s an all too common story to find providers that only seem to want to help while they’re in the office (9am till 6pm, Monday till Friday usually) and nothing at the weekends.

Find a good quality service where you can access help at any time you choose (even 1am on Sunday morning!) Make sure it’s always 24×7 direct access to mentors and instructors, and not a message system as this will slow you down – parked in a queue of others waiting to be called back at a convenient time for them.

We recommend that you search for training schools that use several support centres around the globe in several time-zones. These should be integrated to provide a single interface and round-the-clock access, when it’s convenient for you, with no hassle.

Never make do with anything less. Direct-access round-the-clock support is really your only option when it comes to computer-based training. Perhaps you don’t intend to study during the evenings; usually though, we’re out at work while the support is live.

We can guess that you’ve always enjoyed practical work – the ‘hands-on’ person. If you’re anything like us, the world of book-reading and classrooms is something you’ll force on yourself if you absolutely have to, but it doesn’t suit your way of doing things. Consider interactive, multimedia study if books just don’t do it for you.

Our ability to remember is increased with an involvement of all our senses – educational experts have expounded on this for many years.

Courses are now available in disc format, where your computer becomes the centre of your learning. Utilising the latest video technology, you can sit back and watch the teachers showing you precisely how to do something, and then have a go at it yourself – in an interactive lab.

You’ll definitely want a demonstration of the study materials from your training provider. You should ask for demo’s from instructors, slideshows and fully interactive skills-lab’s.

It doesn’t make sense to go for purely on-line training. Because of the variable quality and reliability of the ISP (internet service provider) market, ensure that you have access to CD or DVD ROM based materials.

A proficient and specialised advisor (as opposed to a salesman) will cover in some detail your current level of ability and experience. This is useful for working out your starting point for training.

Occasionally, the starting point of study for someone with experience will be massively dissimilar to the student with none.

It’s wise to consider some basic PC skills training first. This can help whip your basic knowledge into shape and make your learning curve a little less steep.

Don’t get hung-up, as many people do, on the training course itself. Your training isn’t about getting a plaque on your wall; this is about employment. Focus on the end-goal.

Don’t let yourself become one of the unfortunate masses that choose a course which looks like it could be fun – only to end up with a qualification for a career they’ll never really get any satisfaction from.

Never let your focus stray from where you want to go, and formulate your training based on that – not the other way round. Stay focused on the end-goal – making sure you’re training for something you’ll enjoy for years to come.

Take guidance from a skilled advisor, irrespective of whether you have to pay – it’s usually much cheaper and safer to discover early on if you’ve chosen correctly, rather than find out following two years of study that you aren’t going to enjoy the job you’ve chosen and now need to go back to square one.

Computer training for CompTIA A+ covers 4 different sectors – you need to pass exams in just two sectors to be considered competent in A+. Because of this, the majority of colleges only offer two of the 4 sectors. Our opinion is this isn’t enough – certainly you’ll have the qualification, but training on all 4 will give you a distinct advantage in your working life, where you’ll need to know about all of them. That’s why we believe you should train in all 4 specialities.

Courses in A+ computer training cover diagnostics and fault finding – both remote access and hands-on, alongside building computers and repairing them and operating in antistatic conditions.

You may also want to think about supplementing the A+ with Network + as it will enable you to take care of computer networks, which is where the bigger salaries are.

The way a programme is physically sent to you can often be overlooked. How many parts is the training broken down into? What is the order and do you have a say in when you’ll get each part?

A release of your materials one piece at a time, according to your own speed is the usual method of releasing your program. This sounds sensible, but you should take these factors into account:

What happens when you don’t complete every single exam? And what if the order provided doesn’t meet your requirements? Without any fault on your part, you may not meet the required timescales and not receive all the modules you’ve paid for.

To be straight, the perfect answer is to have a copy of their prescribed order of study, but get everything up-front. Meaning you’ve got it all in case you don’t finish inside of their required time-scales.

A lot of training providers only give support available from 9-6 (office hours) and sometimes later on specific days; not many go late into the evening (after 8-9pm) or cover weekends properly.

You’ll be waiting ages for an answer with email based support, and telephone support is usually to a call-centre who will just take down the issue and email it over to their technical team – who’ll call back sometime over the next 1-3 days, when it’s convenient to them. This is all next to useless if you’re stuck and can’t continue and only have certain times available in which to do your studies.

Keep looking and you’ll come across the very best companies which give students direct-access support around the clock – no matter what time of day it is.

Look for a training school that goes the extra mile. Only proper live 24×7 round-the-clock support gives you the confidence to make it.

Wouldn’t it be great to know for sure that our jobs will always be safe and the future is protected, but the likely scenario for most sectors around Great Britain today is that the marketplace is far from secure.

In times of growing skills shortages coupled with growing demand however, we always find a new kind of security in the marketplace; driven by conditions of continuous growth, companies find it hard to locate enough staff.

Taking a look at the IT market, the 2006 e-Skills survey brought to light a more than 26 percent skills deficit. Or, to put it differently, this means that the UK can only locate three qualified staff for each four job positions existing at the moment.

This alarming notion highlights an urgent requirement for more properly trained computing professionals across the country.

It would be hard to imagine if a better time or market circumstances could exist for getting trained into this swiftly increasing and evolving market.

An all too common mistake that students everywhere can make is to concentrate on the course itself, and take their eye off the end result they want to achieve. Colleges are full of students that chose a program because it looked interesting – instead of what would yield the career they desired.

Don’t let yourself become part of the group who set off on a track which looks like it could be fun – and get to the final hurdle of an accreditation for a career they’ll never really get any satisfaction from.

Stay focused on where you want to get to, and build your study action-plan from that – don’t do it back-to-front. Stay on target and study for a career that’ll reward you for many long and fruitful years.

We’d recommend you seek guidance and advice from a skilled advisor before embarking on some particular training path, so there’s little doubt that the specific package will give the skills necessary.

The Microsoft MCSA (Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator) course is a recognised route for anybody thinking of getting into network support. So if you’re just about to get going or already have experience but need to improve your CV with a recognised qualification, it’s possible to achieve your goals with the right training.

Each of these categories needs a different solution, so ensure you’ve got the correct program before making a start. Search for a training provider that is keen to understand you, and what you hope to do, and can supply you with the clear facts to arrange your thoughts.

Being a part of the information technology industry is amongst the most exciting and ground-breaking industries you could be involved with. To be working on the cutting-edge of technology puts you at the fore-front of developments that will affect us all over the next generation.

Computing technology and interaction through the internet will radically affect the direction of our lives over the coming years; overwhelmingly so.

Wages in the IT sector aren’t to be ignored also – the typical remuneration in Great Britain for the usual man or woman in IT is much higher than the national average. It’s a good bet you’ll bring in a much greater package than you’d typically expect to bring in elsewhere.

Because the IT market sector is still growing with no sign of a slow-down, one can predict that the requirement for certified IT specialists will flourish for a good while yet.

Without a doubt: There really is pretty much no individual job security anymore; there’s really only market and business security – companies can just let anyone go whenever it suits the business’ trade interests.

Wherever we find rising skills shortages mixed with escalating demand of course, we often locate a fresh type of market-security; where, fuelled by conditions of continuous growth, companies are struggling to hire the staff required.

Looking at the computer industry, the recent e-Skills investigation highlighted a 26 percent skills deficit. Showing that for each four job positions existing across IT, we’ve only got three properly trained pro’s to fill that need.

This worrying concept shows the urgent need for more technically certified IT professionals in Great Britain.

In reality, seeking in-depth commercial IT training as you progress through the coming years is likely the finest career choice you could ever make.

If your advisor doesn’t dig around with lots of question – it’s likely they’re just a salesperson. If they’re pushing towards a particular product before understanding your background and experience, then you know you’re being sold to.

Where you have a strong background, or maybe some work-based experience (maybe some existing accreditation?) then it’s more than likely your starting level will be very different from someone with no background whatsoever.

If you’re a student starting IT studies and exams from scratch, it can be useful to break yourself in gently, starting with some basic user skills first. This can be built into most training packages.

Quite often, students have issues with a single courseware aspect which is often not even considered: The method used to ’segment’ the courseware before being sent out to you.

Most companies will sell you a program typically taking 1-3 years, and drop-ship the materials to you piecemeal as you complete each exam. On the surface this seems reasonable – until you consider the following:

What if you don’t finish every single exam? And what if you find the order of the modules counter-intuitive? Due to no fault of yours, you may not meet the required timescales and therefore not end up with all the modules.

For maximum flexibility and safety, it’s normal for most trainees to request that all their modules (now paid for) are sent immediately, and not in a piecemeal fashion. It’s then up to you how fast or slow and in what order you want to work.

To become a proficient web designer with the right credentials for the job market today, your must-have certification is Adobe Dreamweaver.

To become a proficient web designer with the right credentials for the job market today, your must-have certification is Adobe Dreamweaver.

In order to use Dreamweaver professionally in web design, a thorough comprehension of the entire Adobe Web Creative Suite (including Flash and Action Script) is highly recommended. With this knowledge, you have the choice to become either an Adobe Certified Expert (ACE) or Adobe Certified Professional (ACP).

The building of a website is merely a fraction of the skill set required though – to drive traffic, update content, and work on dynamic sites that are database driven, you will need more programming skills, like HTML and PHP, and database engines like MySQL. It would also be a good idea to gain a working knowledge of E-Commerce and SEO (Search Engine Optimisation).

A so-called advisor who doesn’t ask many questions – it’s likely they’re actually nothing more than a salesman. If they’re pushing towards a particular product before learning about your history and whether you have any commercial experience, then you know it’s true.

Remember, if you have some relevant accreditation or direct-experience, then you may be able to pick-up at a different starting-point to someone new to the industry.

Starting with a basic PC skills course first is often the best way to get into your IT programme, depending on your current skill level.

Validated exam preparation and simulation materials are crucial – and should definitely be obtained from your training provider.

Be sure that the exams you practice aren’t just asking you the right questions in the right areas, but ask them in the exact format that the real exams will ask them. It can really throw some students if the questions are phrased in unfamiliar formats.

Ensure that you verify whether you’re learning enough through tests and practice exams prior to taking the real thing.

You’ll come across courses which guarantee examination passes – this always means you have to pay for the exams at the start of your training. However, prior to embracing guaranteed exams, be aware of the facts:

It’s become essential these days that we have to be a little bit more aware of sales ploys – and the majority of us ought to realise that of course it is something we’re paying for (it’s not a freebie because they like us so much!)

The fact is that if a student pays for each progressive exam, when they’re ready to take them and not before, there’s a much better chance they’ll pass first time – because they’ll think of the cost and will therefore apply themselves appropriately.

Do the examinations as locally as possible and find the best exam deal or offer available then.

What’s the point in paying early for exams when you didn’t need to? Huge profits are netted by organisations charging all their exam fees up-front – and banking on the fact that many won’t be taken.

Most companies will insist that you take mock exams first and prohibit you from re-taking an exam until you’ve completely proven that you’re likely to pass – which actually leaves you with no guarantee at all.

Prometric and VUE exams are approximately 112 pounds in Great Britain. Why spend so much more on charges for ‘Exam Guarantees’ (usually wrapped up in the course package price) – when a quality course, support and exam preparation systems and a dose of commitment and effort are what’s required.

There is no way of over emphasising this: Always get full 24×7 instructor and mentor support. We can tell you that you’ll strongly regret it if you don’t adhere to this.

Never purchase study programmes that only provide support to you through an out-sourced call-centre message system after 6-9pm in the evening and during weekends. Companies will try to talk you round from this line of reasoning. The simple fact of the matter is – support is needed when it’s needed – not at times when they find it cheaper to provide it.

World-class organisations offer an online 24×7 package combining multiple support operations from around the world. You get a single, easy-to-use interface which accesses the most appropriate office any time of the day or night: Support on demand.

Don’t ever make the mistake of taking second best when you’re looking for the right support service. Many would-be IT professionals who throw in the towel, just need the right support system.

What might you expect the best Microsoft accredited suppliers to give a student in Britain in this day and age? Patently, the ultimate in Microsoft accredited programs, offering a range of courses to take you to a variety of careers in the IT workplace.

You might like to discuss the job possibilities with a person who’s got industry experience – and if you’re uncertain, then have some guidance on which area of the industry would suit you most, dependent on your personality.

When you’ve chosen the area you want to get into, an applicable training course needs to be selected that’s a match for your needs. This can be personally tailored for your requirements.

Getting into your first IT role sometimes feels easier to handle if you’re offered a Job Placement Assistance service. It can happen though that there is more emphasis than is necessary on this service, because it is actually not that hard for well qualified and focused men and women to secure work in this industry – as there is such a shortage of well trained people.

However, don’t procrastinate and wait until you have qualified before getting your CV updated. Right at the beginning of your training, mark down what you’re doing and get promoting!

Quite frequently, you’ll secure your initial job whilst still on the course (occasionally right at the beginning). If your CV doesn’t show your latest training profile (and it’s not being looked at by employers) then you don’t stand a chance!

You can usually expect quicker results from a specialist independent regional employment service than any training company’s employment division, because they’ll know the local area and commercial needs better.

A big frustration of many training companies is how much men and women are prepared to study to become certified, but how un-prepared that student is to get the role they’re acquired skills for. Don’t falter at the last fence.

Most of us would love to think that our careers will always be safe and our work futures are protected, but the growing reality for most sectors throughout the United Kingdom today appears to be that security just isn’t there anymore.

Security only exists now through a quickly escalating market, driven by a shortfall of trained staff. It’s this alone that creates the appropriate environment for a higher level of market-security – a much more desirable situation.

Recently, a United Kingdom e-Skills survey brought to light that over 26 percent of computing and IT jobs cannot be filled mainly due to an appallingly low number of appropriately certified professionals. Accordingly, for every four jobs existing around Information Technology (IT), employers are only able to locate properly accredited workers for three of the four.

This one reality in itself underpins why the UK urgently requires so many more new trainees to enter the industry.

In reality, acquiring professional IT skills during the next year or two is most likely the best choice of careers you could make.

A top of the range training package will undoubtedly also include fully authorised exam simulation and preparation packages.

Confirm that the exams you practice are not just posing the correct questions from the right areas, but ask them in the exact format that the real exams will phrase them. It completely unsettles students if they’re met with completely different formats and phraseologies.

Practice exams will prove enormously valuable as a resource to you – so much so, that at the proper exam, you don’t get uptight.

A ridiculously large number of organisations are all about the certification, and completely miss the reasons for getting there – which is a commercial career or job. Your focus should start with where you want to get to – don’t make the journey more important than where you want to get to.

Students often train for a single year but end up performing the job-role for decades. Avoid the mistake of finding what seems like a program of interest to you only to waste your life away with something you don’t even enjoy!

Spend some time thinking about what you want to earn and whether you’re an ambitious person or not. Sometimes, this affects which certifications you will need and what industry will expect from you in return.

Have a chat with an experienced industry professional that has a background in the industry you’re considering, and who can give you a detailed description of what you’re going to be doing in that job. Researching these areas long before beginning a study programme makes a lot of sense, doesn’t it?
